    1. World War II was the first modern war in which more civilians than soldiers were killed or maimed. When it ended in August of 1945, more than 39 million civilians died as a direct result of war, including 13 million children. The author shares the eyewitness accounts of children and teens from all over Europe, Japan and the US for an extraordinary picture of the hardships they faced and the hope they hung on to.

    2. Another great, though really sad book on WW2. This one is pretty much done through interviews as well as old letters and stuff all written by children during WW2. From the children of Nazis to Japanese Americans put in the camps here in the U.S. and a lot in between, just a really interesting read. I found it to be (partly because of having to look at the innocent kids in the pictures) really moving at times. I highly reccomend it.
