    1. I read this book many years ago and although I don't remember a lot of details, I do remember that I really enjoyed it. I've have loved almost every book Joy Fielding has written. I'm pretty sure I've read them all except for two or three that are not in print anymore and very hard to find. I look forward to each year when she releases a new book.I'm hoping a new one is coming soon!

    2. The beginning of this book was really good. You are introduced to Jess, a prosecutor for the Illinois state department. She is in the process of prosecuting 2 sick men. One killed his wife with a bow and arrow and the other, Rick Ferguson, beat his wife constantly. The problem is that Rick's wife disappears and Jess can't prosecute Rick without his wife's testimony. Rick can't be held. Then horrible things start happening to Jess. Is Rick responsible? Or is it the new weird guy in her life, Adam? [...]

    4. I read this book about 15 years ago. My wife belonged to a book club and I couldn't find anything around the house to read. The cover of the book was pink with a big lipstick mark on it. Just based on that, I was hesitant to read it (of course the macho neanderthal that I was back then). I am SO GLAD that I read it. It's actually one of my all time favorites. Great read, keeps you hooked the whole time and a phenomenal ending. They actually made a "Made for TV" movie based on this book - that of [...]

    5. Избягвах дълго този жанр, защото не искам да се натоварвам допълнително, но сега ще трябва да се върна обратно. Няма как да не прочета и другите издадени книги на авторката, чете се на екс.И тази не прави изключение.

    6. Joy Fielding doesn't disappoint. I have read many of her thrillers over the years and this book like all her others are page turning psychological thrillers that keep you riveted right to the very end.

    10. Great Joy Fielding! Very typical for her but I enjoyed all the twists and turns and changing my mind about who did it!

    11. Suspense without pages of blood and boring descriptions of body parts. Shocking, frightening and a reminder that we are all fragile in some way. The scariest part is it is completely believable.

    12. I started this and enjoyed the first half but slowly. Then about halfway through, it got where I hated to put it down! I figured some of it out, but it didn't play the way I expected.

    16. OK, so, this was a really difficult book to rate. For a while I was so put off at what a weak woman Jess is. For a Heroine, she was so insecure. Women have more power than that (-ish). Then it dawned on me that this book was written in the 90s. So I had to go back to how people would have formed opinions while during that era. Who was PM? Who was famous? What was in the media? Who was President? Then the book made sense and it was a great story. I really enjoyed reading it and I really came to l [...]

    19. I believe this is one of the first novels that Joy Fielding wrote, if not THE first one. Having read all her other novels, it's easy to see how her writing has matured and improved over the years. Nonetheless, this novel was written in her usual "page turning" style."People are inexplicably disappearing from Chicago prosecutor Jess Koster's life. First her mother vanished without a trace eight years ago. And now a client, the victim of a brutal, sadistic rapist, is also missing. Someone is disru [...]

    20. Lately it seems Joy Fielding is becoming sure bet for me to kill few hours reading a mystery. She has this tendency of repeating things in her all books when it comes to female protagonist of story;like nervous personality, scary dreams, nightmares, pinning for a wrong man, illogical judgements and all. I always find it impossible to like Fielding's female protagonists. This book was no exception. However, it was good reads, nothing special or extraordinary about the story though. But don't have [...]

    21. I hate to be writing this because all other reviews are so full of praise for this book. It was a quick read, yes. And the suspense around the main character, Jess too was interesting. But I found the climax disappointing. The reason for all the trouble in her life didn't seem all that crazy, after all.In a typical Joy Fielding pattern, she has lengthy monologues that could do with some heave editing. But I really enjoyed the two side cases that were part of the book, but definitely not part of [...]

    24. Jess Koster is a chief prosecutor for the Sate Attorney's Office. Her case involves the rape of a woman, by low life Rick Ferguson. When the victim goes missing before giving evidence Jess is convinced Rick is responsible. Battling with the legal system Jess is in danger of loosing her case, while at the same time unexplained incidents happen to her, making her wonder if she will be the next one to disappear.A good twist and ending to the story.

    25. So incredibly non-descript in writing that I forgot what it had been about within a week. Once I re-read the description it clicked. Oh yeah, the murder mystery with the obvious ending that you can see coming from a couple chapters in. Stories like this are a dime a dozen and aren't worth a readers time. Give me a story with actual depth and characters that are more than poorly developed stereotypes and I'll give you some of my hard earned time.

    26. Fielding writes zippy suspense novels similar to those of Mary Higgins Clark. They aren't the works of brilliance of Mary Stewart, but they're diverting entertainment about women in peril.
